Happy Monday, my favorite wandering souls! I love a new week. The possibilities for really exciting developments, projects, and moments are endless. That is the good stuff right there! This morning I found inspiration for this post in the words of my crazy awesome son. See this week, both my tiny humans are trying new things. My daughter has gymnastics camp. And my son starts Tae Kwon Do. This may seem to be a rather mundane event in the grand scheme of things but here is a little about my oldest tiny human…..he is painfully shy at times.
New things come with a bit of anxiety for him and he is the personality type who likes to play it safe. (that is definitely not one of my traits so it is hard for me to grasp at times.) My sweet boy asks “is it OK to be a little scared?” My answer “HELL YES”. I went on to explain that fear is totally normal and is actually a good thing, it helps you grow and become an even more kick ass human being.
This conversation got me thinking about how fear and business go hand in hand. I truly believe fear is a big part of really fabulous ideas. That quote about “if it scares you, you should do it” resonates with me. Our ideas SHOULD be so big, so crazy, and hold so much potential to transform our lives that they scare the shit out of us. Too many times, we water down our dreams because the fear is just too strong.
Love The Fear And Use it
I admit I am guilty of not using the fear and really taking things to the level I want them to be. We are all scared of people laughing at our big ideas. We are all scared that people will downplay our potential because frankly, our big visions even scare them. STOP IT! Screw those negative voices, the external ones AND the internal ones. Use that fear as the fuel for your creative fire and take huge leaps.
My Monday challenge for you all is something I am doing as well. Take a look at your goals and ask yourself “Is this so ballsy that it scares me?”. If not, rework that sucker so it is bigger and more brilliant. You should have a brief freak out moment and then you should take a leap to put it into motion.
Go forth and be bad ass!
